Oil and gas

Chelgate's experience in oil and gas field is unparalelled. We have worked with the world's largest oil company for more than 17 years, and with the the UK's leading gas company for more then five years.

The way oil companies communicate with its stakeholders and the public changed significantly during the 1990s. The industry faced a number of issues during this period which made companies think more about public and media relations.

The mid-1990s also saw the deregulation of the gas supply market for both commercial and domestic users. This was a major upheaval for the industry, and we assisted our client during this deregulation, managing repuation while losing more than half of its market.

Chelgate has provided a range of services to the oil and gas industry including public affairs covering market regulation and taxation, issues and crisis management, trade and B2B promotion, media relations, collaterall production and training.

We handled the launch of gas air conditioning into the UK market, with the first application at the Royal Shakespear Theatre in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

We helped promote combined heat & power (CHP) in the early days, including applications at Eland House (then the new home of the Department for the Environment and now home to the Department for Communities and Local Government), Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle.

We also assisted in the promotion of the use of natural gas as a road fuel, including compressed natural gas (CNG), liquified natural gas (LNG) and liquid petroluem gas (LNG). This included public affairs to encourage the government to reduce road fuel tax, which was successful and a differential that is still in existance today, as well as promoting the use of road fuel gases to domestic and fleet users.  This invloved several fleets including the Government Car Service, First Bus, National Express Coaches, Bournemouth Borough Council,
