Public relations and public affairs in the energy sector

The UK energy market has changed and developed over the last decade, and Chelgate has been at the forefront of that change.  Our clients have included the world's largest oil company and the UK’s biggest gas company.  But with the emergence of the sustainability agenda and alternative energy generation, Chelgate has also worked on projects including major on- and off-shore wind farms, solar photovoltaics, biomass, energy-from-waste, combined heat and power, and a proposed major tidal barrage.

Public affairs energy and utilitiesIn addition, our experience with other utilities includes working for one of the UK’s largest refuse collection and for the country’s biggest cable provider.

Our role has varied considerable in nature, but has embraced planning support, community relations, stakeholder engagement, contributions to legislation and select committees, crisis management, contract bid support, media relations, environmental consultancy, creative and digital services, and marketing support.

Almost without exception, however, we have worked in an atmosphere of intense public and media scrutiny, sometimes hostile – a highly charged and sensitive atmosphere in which the perceived activities of the organisations as much as their communications have had a direct bearing upon their reputations and market valuations.
