In its local government work, Chelgate has two separate offerings. It
works both on behalf of companies wishing to talk with local government
and on behalf of councils in managing their relationships with their many
stakeholders, including the local communities which they serve.
Chelgate is able to do this because both roles require the same skills
base: knowledge of politics and local government, of local communities
and the media they read and of business. This is the experience the team
offers. It straddles the worlds of business, media and local government,
and valuably integrates the company's experience in these related and interlocking
areas.
Importantly, we monitor current development and maintain an updated understanding
of local government and local communities and how they are evolving under
new structures. Our team includes both current and former councillors from
more than one type of authority. In addition, we offer extensive experience
of the government associations, especially the most important, the Local
Government Association. Our people have worked on issues of public private
partnership and how they are changing under best value.
They also have expertise in the often difficult and controversial area
of planning. On this topic as on all matters, those who are current councillors
are scrupulous in making the appropriate interest declarations. That's
because they understand just how important this is.
All this means that whether working on behalf of a council or for an organisation
needing to talk to councils, Chelgate has the expertise which comes from
longstanding, direct personal experience with the critical bodies and issues,
from both sides of the fence.
