DODS Energy Conference

Chelgate deputy chairman Nick Wood-Dow chaired the DODS Energy Conference 2011 in Westminster on October 11. Its title was ‘Keeping the Lights on in a Low Carbon Economy’, and he was alongside other prominent speakers such as Andrew Warren, Director at the Association for the Conservation of Energy, Dr Gordon Edge, Director of Policy at Renewables UK and Jonathan Brearley, Director of Energy and Strategy and Futures at DECC.

The aim of this conference was to explore the long-term solutions for energy supply in a carbon constrained economy and the relevant impacts on energy suppliers, industry, local authorities and consumers. With the publication of the Electricty market Reform White Paper, ‘Planning our Electric Future’, the future provision of energy supply is subject to much scrutiny. The ‘greenest government ever’ had made it clear that by 2025 half of new energy capacity should come from renewables, which poses a significant challenge to energy firms. So how will the UK keep the lights on in a low carbon economy?
