Chelgate Limited appoints Mark Pursey to boost media relations
27 November 2000
Mark Pursey, formerly Press Secretary to the Lord Mayor of the City of
London, has been appointed a Senior Counsellor by Chelgate Limited to boost
their media relations capacity. Mark will work on a spread of accounts,
involving the promotion of financial and business services clients, major
corporate rebranding programmes, and consumer relations.
Mark brings with him experience of media promotion, publicity and management
for events and organisation launches, gained while working for the Corporation
of London. He worked as the media co-ordinator for major London events,
including the Queen Mother's 100th birthday party, the Lord Mayor's Show
and the Celebration of Achievement at Mansion House.
At the same time, Mark was in charge of co-ordinating the proactive media
relations work of the Corporation. This was particularly focused on raising
the profile in the London and national press of the City's management of
open spaces and its environmental initiatives across the capital. This
experience of designing innovative PR solutions offers added strength to
Chelgate's client servicing capacity.
Previous to joining the Corporation of London, Mark worked as a researcher
for the Liberal Democrat Social Security Team, and managed the team's profile
with the Press Gallery during the Lone Parent Benefits debate early in
this Parliament.
Along with media relations and political activism, Mark's career has also
included a short time working as a writer on the Evening Standard's gossip
column, Londoner's Diary. There he gained first hand experience about how
and why journalists write the stories they do.
Commenting on Mark's appointment, Terence Fane-Saunders, Chairman and
Chief Executive of Chelgate Limited said:
"Mark's expertise complements the strong and growing team at Chelgate,
which focuses very clearly on creative, quality servicing."
"Mark will make a contribution especially in our expanding New Media
Unit, with his excellent media relations track record."
