Nick Wood-Dow to take part in pre-olympic rowing event
Chelgate Deputy Chairman Nick Wood-Dow will take part in the annual River Day in his home borough of Spelthorne on Saturday 13 August.
Every year in August, Nick and a group of former Mayors board a Henry V111 style shallop named the JUBILANT, hand built for HM The Queen, and row the current Mayor through four locks of the River Thames from Staines to Sunbury, followed by a flotilla of smaller boats.
The idea is to enable the Mayor to see the riverside gardens in the borough, and celebrate the river which flows through the borough. This year Spelthorne MP Kwasi Kwarteng will join the Mayor's crew. At the end of the ten mile row, they will arrive at Sunbury Regatta, and take part in a re-enactment of an Edwardian regatta with appropriate dress, as part of the Cultural Olympiad being celebrated all over Britain. Nick promises to be back in the office on Monday 15th, without blisters but with aches and pains after the marathon row!
