Mike Hardware narrowly misses out

Michael Hardware just missed out on being elected as a district councillor in the local elections. He was beaten by 120 votes in the Toddbrook ward of Harlow. However, he did managed to increase the Conservative vote by over six per cent, the highest increase by far for any ward in the town, but it was not enough to get him elected as the Labour vote increased by over 10 per cent, benefiting significantly from transferred Lib Dem votes.

Overall, the Conservative Party increased its share of votes by nine per cent, but lost one seat. Labour gained three and the Lib Dems lost two. The council remains Conservative-led, with a majority of one seat.
