THE BARKER REVIEW
13 February 2007

Nick Wood-Dow, Director of Chelgate Environment, chaired a Westminster Briefing for The House Magazine at the Commonwealth Club in London today (February 13) on the Barker Review.

Kate Barker published her final report on the Land Use Planning System in December 2006. It highlights the fundamental role planning plays in delivering sustainable economic development in the context of a growing population, rising incomes, changing demographics and climate change.

Practitioners, local policymakers and civil servants debated the key issues raised by the Barker Review with leading figures from within Westminster, Whitehall and local government. The Government’s response to the review will take the form of a Planning White Paper later this year.

Speakers at the briefing included Richard Goodwin, head of planning and strategy at DCLG, Gideon Amos, chief executive of the Town and Country Planning Association, and Peter Dixon, chairman of the Housing Corporation.

This Westminster Briefing is the latest in a series chaired by Nick Wood-Dow. The last was on the 2012 London Olympics in December last year.
