CHELGATE TEAM COVER POLITICAL SPECTRUM IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

Chelgate's political floor is awash with nervous Council candidates as the local government elections on May 2nd approach. All colours are represented as the Chelgate public affairs team comes out fighting from three different corners. Mark Glover (Labour) is a first time candidate in 'The Lane', in Peckham, while Mark Pursey (Lib Dem) is also fighting a Southwark seat in the safe Lib Dem seat of 'Cathedral'. Heated exchanges in the office could well be carried into the Council Chamber next year as current returns show both are likely to be elected. The more interesting question is, who will be in power, in what is probably the closest fought Borough election in London.

Across London, in Ealing, existing Councillor, Tony Brown (Conservative) is seeking re-election, but faces strong opposition from the 'Yellow Peril'. Will Tony's inimitable bon mots be lost to the Council Chamber for the next four years?

An outside bet is Bene't Steinberg (Conservative), who bravely flies the flag for Iain Duncan Smith in the traditional red territory of Hainault, Redbridge. On current form the company horse is more likely to win 'The Derby', than Bene't is to pass the winning post in the first three.

All this activity is being observed with a wry smile by Cllr Mary Derrane (Labour), a member of Thanet Council - which does not have elections this year, and can enjoy May 2nd as the drama unfolds.
