CHELGATE "SETTING THE POLITICAL AGENDA" SPONSORSHIP

Edward Heath and Dennis Healey were among those receiving Awards at the 50th Anniversary Dinner of the Political Studies Association in Westminster, Tuesday 21st November.

Supporting the event were the British Academy, Blackwell's, the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust, the Economic and Social Research Council and Chelgate itself.

A glittering array of political scientists, politicians and journalists saw Radio Four's James Naughtie hosting the night in which awards were given to Margaret Thatcher for 'Breaking the Mould', Neal Ascherson for 'Outstanding Political Journalist' whilst Charter 88, the Fawcett Society and Greenpeace received the 'Setting the Political Agenda' award. The Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee presented the 'Setting the Political Agenda' award which was sponsored by Chelgate. She joined a merry table of Chelgate executives, fellow journalist Sion Simon, Professor Gerry Stoker, the local government expert, Tony McNulty MP and Professor Elizabeth Meehan from Queen's University of Belfast.

Highlights of the evening included Sir Richard Mottram, Permanent Secretary at Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions, receiving the Outstanding Political Satire award on behalf of the Yes Minister team and the regular disappearance of the MPs on a running Three Line Whip to vote on the Police (Northern Ireland) Bill.
