PR RESOURCE FOR CONSTRUCTION AND PROPERTY INDUSTRIES
10 June 2002

Penny Mack and Mike Hardware of Chelgate's property division are this month launching CAPSIG, the new Construction and Property Special Interest Group of the Institute of Public Relations. The group plans to provide a useful and relevant facility to further the role of public relations within property and construction through networking events, seminars, discussion panels and training programmes.

The need for a professional communications forum in what are two of the largest, fastest growing and increasingly controversial sectors in the economy is widely acknowledged. Similarly, there is a need to raise the profile of the sector - tackling the image problem which sometimes exists - and promoting best practice.

A series of monthly industry-related educational and networking events are being planned. Events will include speeches from industry experts on how they have successfully tackled specific PR issues within their sector, seminars by Government ministers and civil servants, and a discussion panel on the place of corporate social responsibility within the sector. The educational element of the group's work will be designed to fit within existing CPD schemes.

CAPSIG will be launched on Thursday 27 June with a site visit of the More London site in Southwark, followed by a drinks reception.

The group is not exclusive to members of the IPR and all employees within the sector whose role contains an element of PR are invited to attend events.
